Fillers Q & A

What are fillers?

Fillers are one of the in-office cosmetic dermatology services offered at Metroplex Dermatology. Fillers contain a gel-like substance that adds volume under your skin and enhances your natural features.

As you get older, your skin loses its youthful bounce and fullness due to a decrease in subcutaneous fat. Without the fat, your skin loosens and sags, which then leads to creases and lines. Fillers replace the lost fat to restore your skin’s natural fullness.

What are the cosmetic uses of fillers?

Metroplex Dermatology uses fillers to address many beauty concerns. Dr. Hensley's team may recommend fillers to:

  • Reduce or eliminate wrinkles
  • Smooth out depressed acne scars
  • Change the shape and fullness of your lips
  • Enhance your facial contours

Fillers are one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the United States.

What are the types of fillers?

Metroplex Dermatology is a full-service cosmetic dermatology practice. Dr. Hensley's team wants nothing more than for you to look and feel your best. He offers many types of fillers, including:

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers contain a gel-like substance — hyaluronic acid — naturally found in your body. These fillers add volume and moisture to your skin to enhance your features.

Metroplex Dermatology uses Belotero Balance® and the Juvéderm® line of hyaluronic acid-based fillers, including Juvéderm Voluma™.

Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers

Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers like Radiesse® are long-lasting cosmetic injections that address facial wrinkles and folds and skin laxity.

Collagen fillers

In addition to restoring facial volume and reversing the signs of aging, collagen fillers like Bellafill® stimulate your skin’s production of natural collagen to prolong the effects.

What happens during filler injections?

Dr. Hensley's team creates personalized filler injection plans specific to your beauty goals and needs. Before starting your injections, Dr. Hensley's team may first apply a topical numbing agent to your skin to reduce pain during your session.

Dr. Hensley's team then carefully injects the filler into the desired area, massages the filler into place, and repeats the injection as needed until they get the look you want.

Filler injections usually take an hour or less.

What happens after filler injections?

You may notice some redness and swelling at the injection sites, but these side effects disappear within a few hours. Results are immediate.

Though you can resume most of your usual activities after your filler injections, Dr. Hensley's team recommends you skip strenuous physical activity for up to 48 hours to reduce the risk of bruising.
