What is Kybella?

Kybella® is a cosmetic injectable that contains a synthetic form of bile, a substance made in your body that helps you digest fat. 

The synthetic bile, known as deoxycholic acid, targets the unwanted fat cells under your chin and lower face and permanently destroys them so they can no longer store fat, which results in a more contoured look.

The fat under your chin, also called submental fat, is a stubborn pocket of fat that may not improve with weight loss. But with Kybella, you can get a profile that matches your body shape.

What can I expect during Kybella treatments?

Kybella injections use very fine needle points. However, you may experience some discomfort during your treatment. If you are sensitive, Dr. Hensley's team at Metroplex Dermatology can provide a numbing cream.

You may need several injections during your session, depending on the condition of your treatment area and your ultimate aesthetic goals. Your Kybella injection session takes about 15 minutes. To get the best results, you may need 2-3 treatments set at six-week intervals.

You may experience some swelling and numbness at the injection sites, but these side effects should resolve within a week. You should see the results of your injections three months after your final treatment.

How long do the results of Kybella last?

Because Kybella injections permanently destroy the fat cells under your chin, the results should last for the rest of your life. 

However, Kybella may not destroy every fat cell under your chin, and you might experience some changes in your face if you gain weight.
